Mayors Report April 2019
Town Elections - Every two years we hold an election in Town, on the first Monday of May. This year we will be getting at least two new Town Council members, maybe three and saying thanks to two residents with outstanding service to the Town: Council President Peter Helt - who served on Council from 2003 to 2019, as President from 2010- 2019, and interim Mayor for 5 months in 2010; and Councilman Bob King who before serving seven years as a Council member 2010-2019, served as President of MAYAA for many years. I hope both continue to contribute on some level. Their amazing elected service is appreciated and will be missed.
Please come out and vote on Monday, May 6, 2019 at the Mount Airy Firemen’s Reception Hall, 1008 Twin Arch Road, Mount Airy. Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
The Downtown Vision Plan- Study has been completed. The vision plan was a result of the town needing to look at various issues and challenges that will impact our downtown long-term growth and sustainability. This plan allowed the Town’s consultant, Design Collective, to perform a comprehensive review of all the interconnecting pieces. The report was compiled utilizing public workshops, a four-day design charrette and continuous input from the public. This plan can be used as a guide and a resource as we evaluate and plan for issues individually in the future. Most of the suggested improvements would be a result of private development and redevelopment.
