Code Enforcement Corner
Reminders from the Code Enforcement Specialist
Wintertime is upon us, and it won’t be long before the snow begins to fall. Snow brings cheers from some and jeers from others. It also brings shoveling and plowing.
We would like to remind everyone that our Public Works crews work diligently to remove snow from our roadways in a timely manner. Vehicles parked in the street slow are plows and make their jobs much more difficult.
We need your assistance during these events.
First, please move your vehicles from the street.
Town Code 105-23 requires that during periods of snow emergencies, vehicles must be removed from town streets so that snowplow crews can safely clear the streets. A $100 fine can be imposed for failure to move your vehicle.
Second, clear the sidewalk in front of your property of snow and ice.
Clearing of sidewalks is the responsibility of the property owner. Town Code 85-4.1 requires sidewalks must be cleared of snow and ice within 24 hours of a snowfall. A $25.00 fine can be imposed for the first offense and a $50.00 fine for any subsequent offense.
We must all work together to assure that our residents and visitors whether motorists or pedestrians can travel safely during snow and ice events.
Voluntary compliance is our goal, and your cooperation is essential.
