Reminders from the Code Enforcement Specialist
Firepits, Gas Heaters and Chimineas
Fall is here and the firepits are in full swing. It is the perfect time to remind property owners of the precautions that should be taken when using these devices. They can pose a serious fire hazard if not used properly to your residence and others. This is often compounded in areas where high density housing exists.
The National Institute for Fire Prevention recommends that these devices when used with open flames be located not less than 25 feet of a structure or combustible material. They further recommend that no hibachi, grill, or similar devices used for cooking, heating or any other purpose be used on any balcony, under any overhanging portion or within 10 feet of any structure.
Please keep these recommendations in mind when using these devices.
The fire you prevent may save your home.
