The community is invited to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony for Mount Airy Rails to Trails on Tuesday, April 4 at 3 p.m. at 1 N. Main St.
The Mount Airy Rails to Trails project began in earnest on April 7, 2013 by a small group of volunteers working with the town, the Historical Society and the Community Foundation of Carroll County. Hundreds of volunteers and thousands of hours have been dedicated to the project.
The trail currently spans a half mile from Main Street to Watkins Park. The addition of the Boardwalk, funded primarily through a grant received from the State Highway Administration, offers a level, elevated walk along the historic 1838 B&O “Old Main Line” that served Mount Airy into the 1970s.
