Fire hydrant flushing will take place in the Sterling Glen community on Wednesday, Nov. 20 beginning at 8 a.m. The flushing will take place rain or shine with a possible duration of up to 8 hours.
The scheduled flushing of the water system will not interrupt water service. Residents may notice a temporary drop in water pressure or occurrences of discolored water as the goal is to flush sediment from the water system.
For those affected by the hydrant flushing, here are some useful tips to follow.
• To the extent possible, avoid running tap water and using the washing machine or dishwasher while hydrants are being flushed. This will limit the occurrence of trapped particles affecting the performance of faucets and appliances once flushing is complete.
• Once flushing is complete in your area, run the cold water in each of your faucets until the water is clear. This will allow the sediment to work its way through your pipes.
• Check for discolored water before using the washing machine or dishwasher. Wait until the water runs clear before doing laundry or running the dishwasher. NOTE: If your laundry becomes stained, refrain from putting your laundry in the dryer. Rewash clothes immediately using detergent and add a rust remover if necessary.
• If water pressure or volume seems low after flushing has been completed, check your faucet screens for trapped particles.
