NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
ORDINANCE 2025-3 – COMPREHENSIVE REZONINGS
PURUANT TO 2023-2033 COMPREHENSIVE OR “MASTER PLAN”
The Council of the Town of Mount Airy will hold a public hearing on Monday, March 24, 2025 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Town Hall, 110 S. Main Street, Mount Airy, MD regarding Ordinance 2025-3 proposing comprehensive rezonings of properties within the Town pursuant to the recently approved Town 2023-2033 Comprehensive or “Master” Plan. Individuals may participate in the public hearings in person.
Every ten years, the Town is required to adopt or update the Town’s Comprehensive Plan. Maryland Land Use Article, Section 3-201. A Comprehensive Plan is adopted for the “general purpose of guiding and accomplishing the coordinated, adjusted, and harmonious development of the local jurisdiction and its environs.” “The plan shall serve as a guide to public and private actions and decisions to ensure the development of public and private property in appropriate relationships.” The plan addresses several items including transportation needs, public safety, natural resources, adequate public facilities, among other elements, including those properties that the plan proposes be rezoned (“the Rezoned Properties”). The Town 2023-2033 Master Plan was recently adopted by the Town Council. Ordinance 2025-3 if enacted would comprehensively and legislatively rezone the Rezoned Properties consistent with the Town’s updated Master Plan, and would amend the Town’s Zoning Map accordingly.
Copies of the proposed Ordinance 2025-3 are available on the Town website at: www.mountairymd.gov, or at Town Hall. The public is invited to ask questions and to give comments during the public hearing.
