A Main Street Christmas - Tree Lighting and Santa Parade

Come visit our CHARMING town where true holiday SPIRIT is about bringing the community together, to share some memories, and make new ones. 

The old-fashioned Main Street Christmas celebration is a growing favorite, attracting families from Mount Airy, as well as visitors from surrounding counties, Baltimore City, and Washington, DC.

Downtown Mount Airy has delicious restaurants and over 18 shops, to keep you busy. Between all the shops, you are bound to find something for everyone on your gift list. Please consider Mount Airy next time you need to find that special gift for someone. Main Street will be closed to traffic during this event so you can feel free to walk safely down Main Street!

    The Parade line up begins at North Main Street at the Mount Airy Elementary School. All participants must be at the school no later than 6:00 p.m. The Parade will start at 6:30 p.m. and ends at Calvary United Methodist Church on South Main Street. Any participants needing picked up will be in the upper Church parking lot. If the Parade is canceled due to inclement weather, participants will be notified on the day of the parade by 12 p.m. or sooner by email. It will also be posted on the Town Website and Town's Facebook page. Rain or Snow Date is the following Saturday, December 10, 2022. 

  5. Rules
    • No one shall dress up as Santa Claus or Mrs. Claus
    • No candy, toys, or giveaways are to be tossed or handed out during the parade.
    • If you would like to give away anything, (promotional products, toys, hot chocolate, candy, etc.) please contact the event directors at events@mountairymd.gov.
    • Each group must have a banner or a sign to identify themselves.
    • Anyone with horse trailers or walkers should consider parking at the end of the parade route and walking up first. The roadway will be opened immediately following the parade.

Road Closure Information: Main Street closes at 5:00 p.m. until approximately 7:30 p.m. from W. Watersville Road to Paradise Avenue. 

We will have stationery, pens and the Letter-to-Santa Mailbox located outside Cryin' Johnnies -235 South Main Street!  If you would like to get a head start, click on the button to print out a Letter to Santa template.
